New NFL-inspired multi-state lottery game announced by the West Virginia Lottery
CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — The West Virginia Lottery announced a new multi-state lottery game with fall and football season in mind.
According to a press release, the new game, Powerball Xs and Os, is courtesy of the National Football League (NFL) and Powerball, and will bring them together into a “unique game-day experience” for people to enjoy.
"We are ecstatic to launch this game. West Virginia has a storied and rich devotion to the game of football, and we are excited to add a lottery twist to that fandom. During our research for this launch, we learned that our state has one of the most devoted NFL fanbases per capita, and we can’t wait to watch that adoration cross into the Lottery world. But even though this is a brand new twist, we want to remind all of our players how important it is to play responsibly," Acting Director David Bradley
The press release stated that ticket sales will start on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and the first drawing will occur on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Players will pick eight logos out of the 32 possible NFL options instead of selecting numbers, and eight winners will be chosen after a random drawing at 10:00 p.m. each Sunday.
According to the press release, it will be $5 per play for each ticket, which can be found in 24 lottery jurisdictions, and players will need to match four winning team logos to get prizes, and eight winning logos to get the jackpot prize. The jackpot prize will start at $1 million and increase following each drawing that does not have a winner.
The drawing results are random and not based or chosen by the result of any NFL games in any way, the release stated.
According to the WV Lottery’s press release, the launch of the game also acknowledges the beginning of Powerball’s new promotional prize program. In the program, eligible tickets (winning and non-winning) are entered and points can be earned for entry into later drawings for exclusive prizes such as a trip to Super Bowl LXI in California.
