Twitch Introduces Betting Advertisements in the United States

For years, Twitch was emphatic in a critical public attitude towards gambling-related content. The Amazon-owned streaming service barred creators from advertising betting sites and gambling services, framing the policy as one to safeguard its audience-particularly those younger users. Streamers who sought to make money through gambling sponsorships, or those who streamed wagering activities, were often hit with sanctions, restrictions, or outright bans.

The position was further entrenched when Kick, with the backing of major betting operator Stake, emerged as a fresh competitor in town. Unlike Twitch, Kick did not frown on gambling as part of its identity but welcomed streams that involved betting and sponsorships. Thus, most of the creators moved to Kick, and the split was framed between the two platforms not only in commerce but also in morals: Twitch as the "responsible” platform, Kick as an otherwise permissive one.

Betting Ads Appear on Twitch in the US

Recently, Twitch has started running ads for betting operators to users in the US market. They are not sponsorship agreements that involve specific streamers but rather standard platform-level ads integrated into Twitch’s ad system and shown alongside other commercial ads.

This development marks a significant shift in practice. Even though Twitch still prohibits creators from the direct promotion of gambling services, it is now monetizing betting-related advertising inventory. For many observers, this raises questions about consistency and transparency in Twitch’s gambling policy.

That move has already been recognized by users and creators alike, mainly those previously penalized or forced to leave the platform due to monetization attempts for gambling.
