Ohio Lottery Sends $1.447 Billion to Lottery Profits Education Fund
CLEVELAND – The Ohio Lottery is proud to announce a $1.447 billion contribution in fiscal year 2025 to the Lottery Profits Education Fund, which supports K through 12, vocational, and special education programs in Ohio. This profit transfer was achieved thanks to the dedication of Ohio Lottery staff, retailers, vendor partners, and enthusiastic players.
The Lottery generated $4.38 billion in traditional lottery sales in FY 2025. Scratch-Off sales reached a new record of $2.43 billion, besting the previous fiscal year by $46 million. Players favored the $10 scratch-off line which led all price points with sales of $552.3 million.
Daily draw games—Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 5—reached $747.5 million, with Pick 5 sales up $2.8 million over the previous years. In-state draw games, Classic Lotto and Rolling Cash 5, rode the tide of higher jackpots in FY 2025 reaching $77.9 million in sales.
Fewer record jackpots compared to the previous fiscal year impacted multi-state draw game sales of Powerball and Mega Millions. The multi-state category, which includes Lucky for Life, reached $294.3 million in sales, down by 40 percent from the previous year.
“This was a challenging year as Lottery products faced competition from new gambling products, and multi-state jackpot runs that generated millions in sales in years past did not occur; however, sales began to rebound in the last half of the year and we’re proud to have surpassed our budgeted commitment to education by $7.7 million,” Ohio Lottery Director Michelle Gillcrist said.
Notably, Ohio Lottery retailers earned $286.9 million in bonuses, incentives, and commissions. Ohio Lottery players won nearly $3 billion in prizes with 68 winners of $500,000 and 30 new millionaires created, including a $113 million Mega Millions winner.
Total sales from video lottery terminals (VLT) were $1.39 billion, which resulted in total profit of $457.8 million from VLT games. The Lottery’s share of revenue from Lottery Sports Gaming was $415,822.
All figures are preliminary and unaudited. Audited figures are expected to be released in October.
