West Virginia Lottery on track to outpace revenues from last year
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Revenues are up for the West Virginia Lottery compared to last year, with officials crediting draw-based games, particularly high jackpots in both Powerball and Mega Millions.
For the fiscal year beginning on July 1, 2025, more than $445 million in sales have been made, and David Bradley, the acting director of the WV Lottery, said things look promising.
“The lottery’s on a good track, and our year-to-date transfers are almost $230 million, and our year-to-date sales are $445 million,” he said.
The rising collections continue for the lottery despite large payouts being handed down this year. Bradley thinks that’s good news for everyone.
“Revenues at this point, we’re up from a year ago, and I just want to mention that even though we’re up, we’ve paid out more than $5 million in prizes than a year ago, so I think that’s exciting for our players,” he said.
The major draw games are a big factor in the increased revenue for the lottery after Powerball and Mega Millions both saw significant jackpots this year. Powerball hit a record-breaking number after more than two months without a winner, and Mega Millions just hit on Saturday before reaching $1 billion.
“Powerball is an absolute driver for us, and when we see the jackpot climb for Powerball, it tends to help for all of our games,” he said.
The online presence of the lottery continues to contribute to the financial successes as well. According to Bradley, the launch of iLottery last year is paying dividends.
“It’s been a great platform for us, and our sales just continue to increase at a high rate, and, like I said, it’s on our wvlottery.com play app, and you can play all of our lottery games available online now,” he said.
Bradley also noted that revenue for iGaming continues to increase.
